ACC will interrogate Tipu Munshi at Jailgate

The Crime Desk: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will interrogate Tipu Munshi, former Minister of Commerce and former Member of Parliament from Rangpur-4 (Pirgacha-Kaunia) Constituency, in the investigation of allegations of illegal acquisition of wealth through corruption. His wife Irene Malbika Munshi and daughters Tanya Ananya Munshi and Trisha Munshi have also been summoned for questioning on the same charges. Recently, it is said that a letter has been issued summoning them from the head office of the ACC.

The former minister’s family members are scheduled to appear at the ACC office on Thursday morning (September 12).

Confirming the matter, a senior officer of the ACC said that an official letter has been given to the family of the former commerce minister. When they appear on Thursday, their statements and several documents will be sought. On the other hand, since Tipu Munshi is in jail, his statement will be taken any day.

RAB arrested former commerce minister Tipu Munshi from the house of a businessman in Gulshan in a murder case in Rangpur on the night of August 28. Earlier on August 22, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), the financial intelligence agency of Bangladesh Bank, seized the bank accounts of Tipu Munshi and his family members.

Tipu Munshi was elected Member of Parliament for three consecutive elections in 2008, 2014, and 2018. It is learned that a team led by ACC Deputy Director Jahangir Alam will interrogate them.

The investigative team of the ACC is working on allegations of corruption and illegal acquisition of wealth against 13 former ministers and MPs, including Tipu Munshi. The rest of the ministers-MPs on the list are former law minister Anisul Haque, former local government minister Tajul Islam, former religious affairs minister Faridul Haque Khan, former minister and Jatiya Party leader Anwar Hossain Manju, Jasad leader and former information minister Hasanul Haque Inu, former state relief and disaster minister Dr. . Enamur Rahman, former Minister of Textiles and Jute Golam Dastgir Gazi, former Minister of State for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, former MP of Dhaka-20 Constituency Benazir Ahmed, former MP of Jessore-3 Constituency Kazi Nabil Ahmed, former MP of Patuakhali-4 Constituency Mohibbur Rahman, and Nator-former MP Shahidul Islam Bakul of 1 seat.
