The Crime Desk: The financial intelligence agency of the central bank has asked for the bank account information of five persons, including former speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, her husband, and children. Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has sent letters in this regard to various banks and financial institutions of the country.
In the BFIU letter, Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, her husband Syed Ishtiaq Hossain, their son Syed Ebtesham Rafiq, and daughter Lamisa Shirin Hossain and Md. Instructions have been given to send the bank account details of Shafiul Islam.
The letter mentions the names of the parents of these five persons and, in some cases, the names of the spouses, their national identity card numbers, and dates of birth. Md. Shafiul Islam’s occupation is mentioned as a government job and ‘Proprietor of the Subhana Traders’.
Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury is being discussed in all circles as a close friend of the resigned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He was elected as a member of the 12th Parliament from a seat in Rangpur. After the Awami League came to power in the 2008 election, Abdul Hamid was elected Speaker. When he was elected as the President, Shireen Sharmin was elected as Speaker on 30 April 2013. Since then, he has been in this position continuously.
Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was elected Speaker again after the Awami League won the election on January 7 and formed the government. Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and left the country in the face of the student uprising. The President then dissolved Parliament, and on August 8, the interim government was sworn in.
Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury resigned as Speaker on September 2, 27 days after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government.
