The Crime Desk: Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju has been arrested by the intelligence department (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He was arrested from Dhanmondi in the capital on Monday afternoon.
DB Joint Commissioner of Police (North), Md. Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan, said a team of DB police arrested him. There are five cases against him. He has been taken to the DB office.
Anwar Hossain Manju is a Bangladeshi politician, businessman, and journalist who is a former Member of Parliament for Pirojpur-2 and a former minister.
He is a six-time (1986, 1988, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2014) Member of Parliament elected from Pirojpur-2 Constituency.
Manju was in charge of the Energy Ministry in the Ershad government from 1985 to 1988. He was the Minister of Communications in the same government in 1988–1990. When the Awami League came to power in 1996, Anwar Hossain Manju was again given the responsibility of the Ministry of Communications.
When the Awami League government was formed in 2014, he got the responsibility of the Ministry of Forest and Environment. In 2018, Manju was made the minister of water resources when the responsibilities of the cabinet were redistributed.
