Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Due to the conflict in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, intense fighting is going on around the city of Maungdoo across the Naf River. After 12:00 pm on Thursday (August 29) in border upazila of Teknaf, there is a loud sound of mortar shell explosion inside Myanmar in Teknaf. Across the Naf River, the loud sound of mortar shell explosions echoed intermittently over an area of about 30 km east of the Teknaf border, due to which the border residents once again spread panic.
Meanwhile, loud explosions are heard from Kharankhali, Teknaf, Municipality, Hnila, Jadimura, Damdamia, Nightongpara, Jaliapara, Nazirpara, Sabrang, Shahpari Island, Naf river estuary, and Naikshyongchari border. People on the border say that Teknaf is shaking with the loud sound of a mortar shell explosion for the first time after a long closure.
Kamal, a border resident of the Hnila Wabrang area, said that mortar shell explosions are heard every 10-15 minutes from inside Myanmar. Due to which we woke up in the night with panic. Even though it has been closed for a long time, there are new explosions tonight. After 12 o’clock in the night, the loud sound like thunder is still going on intermittently, with loud noise and black dua.
BGB and Coast Guard personnel are said to be on high alert to prevent any Rohingya from entering Bangladesh due to Myanmar’s internal conflict.
Rashed Mahmud Ali, chairman of Hnila Union Parishad, said that after 12 o’clock in the night, heavy mortar shell explosions are heard inside Myanmar. However, people living near the borders of the area have been warned not to panic.
