The Crime Desk: Workers are protesting by blocking the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Kaliakore, Gazipur, demanding unpaid salaries.On Wednesday (August 21) at one o’clock in the afternoon, the workers of a garment factory named Mahmud Jeans Limited in Chandrastha upazila went on strike and blocked the highway in the Chandra area of the Dhaka-Tangal highway.
Meanwhile, the workers protested on the highway, demanding unpaid wages, and raised various slogans against the factory owner.
Traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail highway came to a standstill due to workers’ blockades. As a result, a long traffic jam has been created on the Dhaka-Tangail highway from Chandra to Mouchak-Kabirpur and Gogai.
The protesting workers said that the factory staff have not been getting salaries for the last 5 months and the factory workers for 2 months. They are living an inhumane life without getting paid. They sought the intervention of the administration to get the salary quickly.
As of writing this report, OC AFM Nasim of Kaliakair police station has confirmed that traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail highway has been stopped due to the workers’ blockade.
