Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: 3 members of the same family were killed in a landslide at Pekua in Cox’s Bazar. The accident happened on Saturday (August 17) at around 2 a.m. in the Jaralbunia area of the Shilkhali union of the upazila.
The deceased are from the Zarulbania Segunbagicha area of the Shilkhali Union of Pekua. Sarwar Alam’s wife, Mumtaz Begum (32) and her baby daughters, Toha (8) and Maina (13).
Regarding the locals, Pekua Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Saiful Islam Joy said that it rained intermittently in Pekua throughout the day on Saturday. Heavy rain started at midnight. Due to heavy rains, the ground became soft, the hill collapsed at around 2 am, and the tin shed of Sarwar Alam fell on the house. Sarwar’s wife and two daughters died in their sleep.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Pekua police station Mohammad Ilyas said 3 members of the same family were killed in the landslide. The police were sent to the spot after receiving the information. Further legal action is pending in this case.
