State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters at his daily press conference on Wednesday (August 7) that Bangladesh was monitoring developments and that they had clearly seen the appointment of Muhammad Yunus as the leader of an interim government.
He said, “We think that the interim government will play an important role in establishing long-term peace and political stability in Bangladesh.” Miller said these things in response to questions about Bangladesh’s rapid development.
The US official said all decisions of the interim government should respect democratic norms.
Meanwhile, a State Department spokesperson told PTI, “All decisions regarding the interim government should respect democratic principles, the rule of law, and the will of the Bangladeshi people.” Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has agreed to lead Bangladesh’s interim government. We are ready to work with the interim government because this government will determine the democratic future of the people of Bangladesh.
NDTV reports that Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus is set to take oath as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government on Thursday. He appealed to all to remain calm and to “abstain from all forms of violence” to make the most of “our new victory.”.
Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman said that the interim government may have 15 members.
