Jhalkathi Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country on Monday afternoon in the face of ongoing protests over quota reforms. After the departure of the Prime Minister, Awami League leaders and activists across the country are in trouble.
After the news of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation reached Jhalkathi, angry students attacked and set fire to the residence of 14-party coordinator Awami League MP Amir Hossain Amur on Ronals Road on Monday afternoon.
Apart from this, Jhalkathi Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman’s College Road residence was vandalized and set on fire. The businesses of Municipal Councilors Kamal Sharif and Hafiz Al Mahmud and UP Chairman Abul Kalam Masum were vandalized and set on fire.
Meanwhile, the influential leaders of the Awami League and other organizations fled the city before the students came down to the streets in the morning.
