Narsingdi representative: All prison guards of the district jail have been dismissed due to the incident in the district jail. Narsingdi Additional District Magistrate Tajwar Akram Sakapi Ibn Sajjad informed this information with reference to the Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Earlier on July 23, Narsingdi District Jail Superintendent Abdul Kalam Azad and District Jail Kamrul Islam were dismissed. He said that 68 prison guards were dismissed last Monday.
Miscreants attacked, vandalized, and set fire to the Narsingdi District Jail on the afternoon of July 19 in the name of quota movement. 826 prisoners, including 9 militants in the jail, escaped. 85 firearms, 8,000 bullets, and around 18 lakh rupees were looted from the jail’s armory. The prison was burned down.
In such a situation and for the absconding accused to surrender, the Narsingdi district administration has been miking since the night of 21 July. In view of this, 575 escaped prisoners voluntarily surrendered in the court of Narsingdi in 11 days till Tuesday. Out of 85 looted weapons, 49 weapons and 1091 bullets were recovered.
