Dhaka Bureau: State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Junaid Ahmed Palak said today we will be informed about the launch of social media.

He informed the journalists after the meeting with seven ministers—state ministers, four secretaries, and top officials of the law and order forces—in the meeting room of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday evening (July 30).

The Minister of State for Telecommunication said that the launch of social media will be announced around 11 o’clock on Wednesday.

Today is the last time to give a rational explanation to the government’s letter to Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok regarding the quota reform movement. In the letter, the representatives of these social media have been summoned to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on July 31. It has been said to appear in person to explain.

Junaid Ahmed Palak said on Tuesday that Facebook and YouTube have not responded to the government’s letter. However, TikTok has given a reply by sending a mail instead of a letter.

When violence and conflict broke out around the quota reform movement, a curfew was imposed across the country on the night of July 19, and the army was deployed. Later, the government declared a general holiday from July 21 to 23. When the government launched an operation to suppress the violence, the situation became normal on July 22. After that, the curfew relaxation time gradually increases. The office has been opened gradually.
