Rangamati Correspondent: Arja Begum, a 60-year-old woman, died in a wild elephant attack in Rangamati’s Longadu. The incident took place on Sunday night in the Rangipara area of the Bagachtar Union of the Upazila. Deceased Arja Begum is the wife of deceased Zahirul Islam of the Rangipara Forest Office area.
Longadu police station OC Harunur Rashid and forest department officials confirmed the incident.
It is known that a group of wild elephants entered the locality and attacked the house at midnight on Sunday. At that time, the old woman, Arja Begum, was running around inside the house to save her life when a group of elephants attacked her. He died on the spot. At this time, his house was destroyed by a group of wild elephants.
Locals said that wild elephants often enter the locality from the forest, destroy people’s houses, and cause extensive damage to crops. The people of that area are suffering from extreme insecurity about their lives and property.
Sajib Kumar Majumdar, Pablakhali Forest Range Officer of Chittagong Hill Tracts North Forest Division, said that after receiving the information, the people of the forest department went to the spot and recovered the dead body of the old lady and sent it to the Rangamati General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem. Later, appropriate measures will be taken to compensate the deceased’s family.
