Own Correspondent: The court sentenced four people to death and one to life imprisonment for killing a Kaviraj named Sulal Chowdhury (55) due to a dispute over the boundary of the house in Raujan.
Chittagong Third Additional District and Sessions Judge HM Shafiqul Islam pronounced the verdict on Wednesday (July 3). Sudip Kanti Nath, the lawyer for the plaintiff, confirmed the matter.
The convicts sentenced to death are Mithu Chowdhury, Sumon Chowdhury, Delwar Hossain and Ershad Hossain. Besides, another accused named Sudip Chowdhury has been given life sentence. Among them, except Delwar Hossain and Sudeep Chowdhury, the rest are absconding.
Sudip Kanti Nath, lawyer for the plaintiff, said that a local Kaviraj named Sulal Chowdhury was murdered on June 25, 2016 due to a dispute over the boundary of the house. When a case was registered in this incident, the police filed a charge sheet against six people. After a long hearing and testimony, the court announced the verdict today.
He also said that, in addition to the death sentence, the court fined the four accused 50,000 taka. Besides, another accused was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined 10,000 taka, and another accused was acquitted.
