Khagrachari Correspondent: Hills collapsed in Khagrachari due to heavy rain. The incident took place on Tuesday (July 2) around 6 a.m. at Sapmara in Alutila district. Traffic on the Dhaka-Khagrachari and Dhaka-Chittagong roads is closed. Many vehicles are stranded, and passengers suffer. The fire service is working to remove soil from the road.

Fire service and civil defense leader of Khagrachari. Jasim Uddin confirmed this information. He said, I am working to remove soil from the road. Traffic will be normal on the fast road. He also said that there is a risk of landslides at several places on the road.

It is known that traffic has been stopped for more than an hour after the landslide in the Sapmara area in the early morning. Besides, the Khagrachari-Rangamati road has sunk due to heavy rain. Due to this, traffic on the road is closed. Heavy rain started in the district on Monday (July 1) morning. Due to this, water accumulated on the road, and all kinds of traffic stopped. Twenty-four miles of Mahalchari Road have been flooded since morning due to rainwater, and traffic has been stopped.

Besides, the road in the headquarters area of the Dighinala-Longadu road has been submerged in rainwater. Due to this, road communication between Rangamati and Longdur has been stopped.

Meanwhile, Khagrachari’s road connection with the Sajek tourism center has also been closed. Due to water rising over the road at several places, including Baghaihat Bazar and Machalong Bazar on the Sajek-Khagrachari road due to the hill slope, traffic has stopped. Hundreds of tourists are stranded in Saje due to the suspension of tourist traffic.

On the other hand, the local administration has started work to safely evacuate the people living at the foot of the hills in the district. The public representatives tried to evacuate the residents of Shalbon, Mohammadpur, Sabujbagh, and Comilla Tila areas of the district headquarters on Monday morning. Apart from this, shelters have been kept ready in the areas that are at risk of landslides. The Upazila administration has informed us that there is a risk of flooding in the lower areas due to continued heavy rains.
