Narayanganj Correspondent: An oil trawler caught fire in the Buriganga River in Fatulla, Narayanganj. The trawler caught fire in the river near Meghna Depot jetty around 1.30 pm on Wednesday (June 26). At that time, the trawler had 86 drums of petrol and 70 drums of diesel. Meghna Depot in-charge Ziaur Rahman said that almost all the drums burst into flames.
Meanwhile, members of the fire service were working to control the fire until 3 p.m. Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service Fakhruddin said, “I have come to the scene; the details will be given later.”
Four workers were on board the trawler at the time of the explosion. One of them was sent to the hospital after being rescued. The remaining three were not found.
Oil in the trawler was going to Manpura in Barisal, Meghna Depot in-charge Ziaur Rahman said. He said, “There were four workers in the trawler. They were cooking inside. It is feared that there may be a fire there. The trawler had 86 drums of petrol and 70 drums of diesel. Almost all the drums burst into flames.
Narayanaganch Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Didarul Islam said, “We have spoken to the depot officials. As far as we know, the trawler was loaded with diesel and gasoline. I heard that four workers were cooking on a trawler carrying oil drums. Maybe things can happen from there. One has been taken to the hospital; I don’t know about the other three yet.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fatulla Model Police Station Noore Alam Mia said, “An oil-carrying trawler kept in the Bariganga river adjacent to the depot caught fire. I saw someone injured. No news of the deceased was found.
