Today is National Tea Day

The Crime Desk: National Tea Day will be celebrated across the country today. Under the theme of ‘Smart Bangladesh’s determination, export-oriented tea industry’, the Bangladesh Tea Board, under the guidance of the Ministry of Commerce, will hold the National Tea Day for the fourth time and the National Tea Award for the second time.

President on the occasion of National Tea Day. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the occasion. On the occasion of the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be the chief guest at the main function of the National Tea Day at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

Note that National Tea Awards will be given to various tea companies and individuals in eight categories in recognition of their special contribution to the tea industry. The Prime Minister will hand over the prizes to the winners.

Note that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman served as the first Bengali chairman of the Tea Board from June 4, 1957, to October 23, 1958. To commemorate the Father of the Nation’s outstanding contribution to the tea industry and the date of his accession as Chairman of the Tea Board, the Cabinet meeting on July 20, 2020, declared June 4 as National Tea Day.

Bangladesh is moving forward on the path of sustainable development of the tea industry under the direction of the Prime Minister and the continuation of the initiatives of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu for the development of the tea industry. In 2023, 13 countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East exported about 1.4 million kg of tea, which is about 33 percent more than last year. The Ministry of Commerce is working to produce tea according to the demand of the international market.

Currently, there are 168 large tea gardens and about 8 thousand small tea gardens in the country. Tea was once one of the main export products of the country. In the last two decades, with the increase in people’s income and purchasing power, the domestic demand for tea has increased to a large extent.
