The Crime Desk: The court ordered the attachment of 113 different property documents, flats, and partial shares of the company in the names of former IGP Benazir Ahmed, his wife Zishan Mirza, his eldest daughter Farhin Rista bint Benazir, and his younger daughter Tahsin Raisa bint Benazir.
ACC Deputy Director Hafizul Islam made the request in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain on Sunday (May 26). After the hearing, the court granted the application.
Earlier, on May 23, all bank accounts of Benazir Ahmed were frozen, and his 83 properties in Gopalganj and Cox’s Bazar were attached. After finding more assets, the ACC appealed to Croce.
Recently, a national daily published news about the huge amount of illegal assets of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and former Director General of RAB Benazir Ahmed. Since then, this former IGP of police has been discussed a lot.
Jatiya published a report titled ‘Aladdin’s Lamp in Benazir’s House’ in which the details of his various financial assets were highlighted. Benazir’s vast assets include an elite and scenic tourist center called Savannah Eco Resort in Sahapur, Union of Gopalganj. Apart from this, at least six companies were found in different parts of the country in the name of his wife and two daughters. The amount of investment in five institutions may exceed Rs 500 crore.
The report also claims that Benazir Ahmed owns expensive flats, houses, and bigha after bigha of land in Dhaka’s elite areas. Best Holdings and the five-star hotel La Meridien have 200,000 shares in the names of the two daughters. In Purbachal, there is a duplex house spread over 40 kathas with an estimated value of at least Tk 45 crore. There are another 10 bighas of land worth 22 crores in the same area. However, in the last 34 years and seven months of long service life, Benazir Ahmed’s salary and allowances are supposed to be 1 crore, 84 lakh, 89 thousand, and 200 taka.
Member of Parliament Barrister Syed Syedul Haque Sumon wrote to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the allegations against Benazir Ahmed. Later, the ACC started an investigation.
