Nahid Sultana Yuthi surrendered and got bail

Dhaka Bureau: Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi, independent general secretary candidate and wife of Jubo League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parsh, has been granted bail in the case filed at Shahbag police station regarding the Supreme Court Lawyers Association’s election-related violence.

Juthi surrendered to the Metropolitan Mahbub Ahmed Court of Dhaka on Sunday and applied for bail. After the hearing, the court granted his bail. Yuthi’s lawyer, Ehsanul Haque Samazi, confirmed the issue of bail.

Earlier on March 20, Justice Abu Taher Md. A High Court bench comprising Saifur Rahman and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolan granted him anticipatory bail for eight weeks. As the bail period was about to expire, he surrendered and applied for bail.

On the night of March 8, a case was registered at the Shahbag police station in the capital regarding the ruckus, scuffles, and fights related to the counting of votes in the 2024–25 elections of the Supreme Court Lawyers Association. In the case of advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi, an independent an independent editor candidate, and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, an editor candidate of the BNP panel, 20 people were accused.

Assistant Attorney General Saifur Rahman Chowdhury Saif filed this case as a plaintiff on the charge of attempted murder.

According to the details of the case, the other accused in the case, on the orders of Nahid Sultana Yuthi and under the direct leadership of the other accused, opened the door of the Shaheed Shafiur Rahman auditorium on the ground floor of the Supreme Court Bar Association and forcibly entered with weapons. During this time, they abused other members of the election subcommittee, including the plaintiff. The plaintiff was injured when he hit the middle of the head with an iron rod held by the defendants with the intention of killing him. The other accused assaulted and kicked the plaintiff with wooden sticks and wooden and plastic chairs, injuring various parts of the plaintiff’s body and tearing his clothes.
