Karnaphuli Correspondent: The mobile court fined three companies three lakh taka for illegally extracting sand and piling it on the bank of the Shikalbaha canal in Karnaphuli upazila. At this time, 1 lakh 30 thousand cubic feet of sand and two excavators were seized.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Piyush Kumar Chowdhury conducted this operation at the Shikalbaha Vellapara crossing area of the upazila at around 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 12. CMP Karnaphuli police and members of the Ansar forces fully cooperated in the operation.
According to the information obtained from the operation, for the crime of illegally excavating and piling sand under the Vellapara bridge, LB Enterprises Proprietor Pragya Jyoti Barua, Fateh Ali Shah Enterprises owner Nurul Islam, and Sarwar Corporation owner Abu Sadat Sayem have been fined a total of one lakh rupees. Executive Magistrate Piyush Kumar Chowdhury said, “According to the Sand Mahal and Soil Management Act, 2010, three persons have been fined three lakh taka, and two excavators and sand have been seized for the crime of illegally excavating sand and piling it on canal bank land for sale.”
The magistrate also said, “The upazila administration is always keeping a watchful eye against the owners of illegal dredgers or the traders who extract sand illegally to protect the environment.”
