Dhaka Bureau: From now on, Dhaka University will give admission to at least 20 Palestinian students in undergraduate and masters programs with scholarships and housing facilities. On Tuesday (April 30), Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal met with the Palestinian ambassador in Bangladesh, Yusuf S. Y. This decision was taken on the eve of Ramadan. During the meeting, the Ambassador of Palestine requested the Vice-Chancellor grant admission and scholarships to Palestinian students, especially female students, who are interested in studying at Dhaka University, and the Vice-Chancellor promised this.
Ambassador of Palestine Yusuf S. Y. Ramadan said, “The foundation of friendly relations between Bangladesh and Palestine was established in 1971 by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation of Bangladesh. Following this, Bangabandhu’s daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have taken a strong stand for the Palestinian people in the country and in international forums. For which the Palestinians are grateful to Bangladesh.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal assured the ambassador of Palestine that at least 20 talented Palestinian students, especially female students, will be given the opportunity to be admitted to undergraduate and masters programs with scholarships and residential facilities at Dhaka University every year. All facilities will be provided to Palestinian students while studying at DU.
In the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University strongly condemned and protested the barbaric and ruthless attacks, massacres, and inhumane torture of the Israeli occupying forces in Palestine, especially the people of Gaza. He mentioned that the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, and all the people are always sympathetic towards the Palestinian friends.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal thanked the Ambassador for coming to Dhaka University and showing keen interest in admitting Palestinian students to DU.
At this time, the Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Registrar Prabir Kumar Sarkar, Director of International Affairs Office Professor Dr. Samsad Murtuza, and Director of Public Relations Mahmood Alam were present.
