The Crime Desk: All secondary schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical educational institutions in 27 districts, including Dhaka, are closed on Tuesday (April 30) due to the ongoing heat wave across the country. The Ministry of Education announced this information in a press release on Monday (April 29).

According to the notification, all the districts of Khulna and Rajshahi Division and Dhaka, Tangail, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, and Manikganj of Dhaka Division, Kurigram and Dinajpur of Rangpur Division, and Patuakhali District of Barisal Division will be closed on Tuesday (April 30).

The people of this country are witnessing the longest continuous heat wave since independence. This 28-day heat wave has already broken the 76-year-old record. The Meteorological Office says that according to the weather data they have had since 1948, this is the longest heatwave in the country. The heat wave that started on March 31 has been going on for 28 consecutive days. Before this, there was a heat wave for 24 consecutive days in 2023.

In the first week of this month, heat waves started in some districts of Bangladesh. Then, in the last three weeks, a heat wave spread almost all over the country. In this, severe heat waves are seen flowing over several districts in the southwestern part of the country. Chuadanga has already recorded the highest temperature this year at 43 degrees Celsius.

Primary to higher secondary schools opened yesterday after a long holiday of a week and Eid, fasting due to a severe heat wave. However, a new holiday was announced in some districts after one day of classes. But it was announced to open the primary schools on Sunday. Now it has been declared closed again.
