Gazipur representative: There are about 5000 small and big industries in Gazipur district, which is dominated by industry. And after 3 days, the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. All factories will be closed today, Monday, and tomorrow, Tuesday. At the same time, millions of people will start their journey home on holiday, which will increase the pressure on the highways.
Not only workers staying in Gazipur, but buses coming from Narayanganj, Gabtali, Ashulia, Baipal, Savar, and Nabinagar areas cross the Chandra area and enter North Bengal. As a result, every year Chandra suffers.
On the other hand, Abdullahpur, Tongi Bazar, Station Road, College Gate, Gazipur Chowrasta, Chandna Chowrasta, Salna, Porabari, Rajendrapur Chowrasta, Hotapara, Memberbari, Bagherbazar, Gargaria Masterbari, Ansar Road, Mauna Chowrasta, MC Bazar, and Nayanpur are on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway. And Jainabazar Sands has traffic congestion and passenger pressure. There was no traffic jam or suffering in these stations on Sunday. However, transport and factory sources say that if all the institutions are closed, there will be suffering on the roads.
1 thousand 316 factories gave salaries and bonuses. Gazipur has a total of 2 thousand 223 garment factories, including BGME, BKME, and BTM. Out of this, 1,316 industries have given bonuses so far. But all the factories will pay the bonus before Eid. Also, 2,195 factories have paid their salaries for the month of February.
Gazipur Industrial Police Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Imran Ahmed told the media that 1,316 factories have been given bonuses till Sunday. There is a slight difference in the current month’s salary. Some factories will give half the salary, some factories will give the full month’s salary. Hopefully, the factories will pay the salary bonus by Tuesday.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, it has been decided to run three special trains from Gazipur’s Joydevpur railway station to Dinajpur’s Parvatipur to make the Eid journey of people working in the garment industry easy and safe.
A total of 3 special trains will depart from Joydevpur station for Parvatipur station in Dinajpur at 11 p.m. on April 7th, 8th, and 9th. The train will leave from Joydevpur and pass through Natore, Santahar, Joypurhat, Birampur, Phulbari, and finally reach Parvatipur in Dinajpur. The total number of seats in the train is 716, of which 24 are first class. All allotted tickets will be available online only.
Gazipur District Administration Assistant Commissioner Md. Hasibur Rahman said that on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the government has taken various steps to make the Eid journey of homebound people easy and safe. As a part of this, three special trains have been started from Joydevpur to Parvatipur in Dinajpur, considering the workers working in various industries in Gazipur district.
Workers have started returning to villages from the capital and surrounding industrial areas to spend Eid with their families. As time goes by, the pressure on passengers is increasing on the highway. Naozor flyover, Safipur flyover, 4-lane Konabari flyover, 4-lane Chandra flyover, and 4-lane Kaliakoi underpass flyover are running on the Dhaka Tangail highway for traffic convenience.
Besides, a total 10 flyovers, including the BNS to Collegegate flyover, the Uturn-1 Gazipura flyover, the Uturn-2 Open University flyover, the Bhogra flyover, and the Chowrasta flyover, are operational on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. However, there is a fear of traffic jams this Eid.
With the opening of these flyovers, traffic jams are expected to be relieved. However, due to unplanned work, ongoing work by BRT, shops on the pavement, and construction materials, there is a fear of traffic jams this Eid.
Besides, all industries will be closed on Monday. If a large number of people come out together on the highway, traffic jams will be created. Meanwhile, commuters going from one side to the other are suffering because the road divider was constructed before Eid without constructing a footover bridge at Chandra Mor. Due to the construction of a new road divider, the homebound people of North Bengal are facing extreme suffering.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Traffic) Mohammad Alamgir Hossain told the media that this Eid journey will be more comfortable than other times. This time, since seven flyovers have been opened from Tongi to Gazipur intersection, along with two flyovers in the Chandna Chowrasta and Bhogra areas, we hope that the Eid journey will be more comfortable. Several initiatives have been taken, along with additional traffic police, to keep traffic conditions normal on the highway. Additional wreckers are kept ready so that vehicles can be removed quickly if they break down.
Illegal structures have been removed from the Chandana Chowrasta area of the Dhaka Mymensingh Highway to keep the Eid journey orderly and to ease traffic congestion. The operation was conducted on Sunday afternoon so that there was no problem before Eid near the bus stand and the highway.
Assistant Commissioner of Gazipur District Commissioner’s Office Sumaiya Momin told the media that illegal structures have been removed to keep traffic on the highway. Illegal shops and structures within ten meters of the highway have been vacated.
Gazipur District Commissioner Abul Fateh Mohammad Safiqul Islam told the media that all measures have been taken to ensure that the people at home can go to the village without any problems. The fact that industrial workers get salary bonuses is also being monitored.
