Jhalkathi Correspondent: Protest and 12-hour ultimatum by journalists demanding withdrawal of ASI Mahabub in case of assaulting a Bhor paper correspondent inside Rajapur police station in Jhalkathi.
ASI Mahabub of Rajapur police station assaulted Mainul Islam Tutul, an executive member of Rajapur Press Club and a UP member of Ward No. 3 of Galuar Union, inside the police station at 4:30 pm on Saturday (March 30). This incident has caused intense anger among local journalists.
After Maghrib prayers, local journalists and public representatives protested in front of the police station, demanding the withdrawal of ASI Mahabub and a 12-hour ultimatum. At this time, the public representatives expressed solidarity with the journalists.
Moniruzzaman Khan, former president of the Rajapur Press Club and daily Ittefaq’s Rajapur representative, and Riaz Uddin Matubbar, member of Ward No. 1 of the Sadar Union and organizing secretary of the Upazila Awami League, addressed the protest rally.
Journalist Mainul Islam Tutul said that when a party was brought to the police station in a controversial incident in the area, I appeared there as a public representative. I had my baby daughter with me then. At one stage of talking to ASI Mahabub, he raised his hands on me in front of the baby girl and abused me.
In this regard, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Rajapur Circle) Masud Rana said, subject to administrative investigation, necessary action will be taken against the accused policeman.
