Bandarban Correspondent: Three members of the Myanmar Army, including an officer, have taken refuge in Bangladesh through the Tumbru border in Naikshyongchari, Bandarban. On Saturday morning, they entered Bangladesh through the border and took shelter in the locality. Later, they were disarmed by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Those concerned said that their bodies are being brought to 11 BGB zone headquarters.

Locals in the border area said that the conflict between the country’s army and the separatist Arakan Army is going on in Myanmar. The camps in Myanmar’s border areas have already been taken over by the Arakan Army. As a result, Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) and army personnel are taking shelter in Bangladesh. In the last three weeks, 177 members of the BGP and three members of the army took refuge in Bangladesh.

Naikshyongchari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Zakaria said that the BGB disarmed three members of the Myanmar Army who took refuge inside Bangladesh early this morning and later took them into custody. All the BGP members who had taken refuge earlier have been kept in the school building of the 11 BGB zone headquarters of Naikshyongchari. Officials of BGB said that they will be sent back to their country very soon.

Earlier too, 330 officials of various departments, including the BGP and army, took refuge in Bangladesh for the same reason. They were sent back to Myanmar in two phases on February 15.
