Dhaka Bureau: State Minister for Labor and Employment Nazrul Islam Chowdhury said that workers’ leave cannot be given less than government leave. He said this during a press briefing at the Ministry’s meeting room at the Secretariat on Wednesday (March 27).
The state minister said that the workers should be paid their fair dues before Eid. Eid leave should be given according to the convenience of travel in coordination with the government holiday based on the discussion between the employer and the worker. The workers’ holiday shall in no way be less than the public holiday of Eid. No worker can be retrenched before Eid.
Nazrul Islam Chowdhury said that a meeting was held with the ready-made garment sector and the Tripartite Consultative Council (TCC). A meeting of the National Advisory Council has been held in all sectors. A decision has already been taken on the garment sector.
He said we were repeatedly asking the owner to confirm that. They have agreed with us that, under any circumstances, the workers will not take to the streets. In exchange for anything, their debt will be settled.
However, the state minister could not say when the workers would be paid. He said it would be given before Eid. Each factory will have a different time. Not everyone can give together. But the workers should be paid before the Eid holiday. Layoffs cannot be announced before Eid.
The state minister said that the workersdues will be paid before Eid. And the employer-employee will discuss how the holiday will be implemented.
