The Crime Desk: Today is March 25, Genocide Day. A tainted massacre day in the history of human civilization. On March 25, 1971, the lives of the Bengalis were brutal, horrible, terrible, and terrible. That night, barbaric Pakistani forces armed with sophisticated weapons attacked unarmed Bengalis all over the country, including Dhaka, in the name of Operation Searchlight. The atrocities of history culminated in the genocide known as Kalrat. The president gave a separate message on the occasion of the day. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The proposal to observe Genocide Day on March 25 was unanimously accepted in the National Assembly on March 11, 2017. Since then, the day has been celebrated as Genocide Day. Bangladesh will remember the brutality of the Pakistani forces by switching off the lights for one minute. According to a government statement, a symbolic ‘black-out’ will be observed across the country from 11:00 to 11:10 on Monday night. During this time, no lighting can be done in all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings and establishments. KPIs and emergency installations will remain unaffected by the blackout.

President Md. In his speech, Sahabuddin called on all concerned, including Bangladesh missions abroad, to play an effective role in achieving international recognition of Genocide Day. In her speech, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the countrymen and the people of the world to build an egalitarian society free from all forms of discrimination and sectarianism.

The Pakistani army left the cantonment at 11:30 p.m. on March 25, 1971. Their sophisticated rifles, machine guns, and mortars roared through the air. The night air is heavy with the cries of innocent people. They started killing Bengalis indiscriminately at various places, including Rajarbagh Police Lines, Pilkhana EPR Headquarters, Dhaka University, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, and Neelkhet in Dhaka city. In many parts of the country, including Dhaka, the invaders brutally killed half a million Bengalis in just one night.

Pakistani invaders that night opened fire, fired mortar shells, and reduced the Daily Ittefaq, Daily News, and National Press Club to rubble. Several media workers also had to give their lives in this attack.

In the general elections of 1970, the Awami League, under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, won an absolute majority. But the West Pakistani ruling group, without handing over power to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, began to make military preparations secretly. The freedom-loving Bengalis were excited by the spirit of freedom. Bengalis are suspicious of the ruling group’s time-wasting in the name of discussion.

On March 25, around 1:15 a.m., a group of soldiers proceeded towards Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s house at 32 Dhanmondi. They entered the house, firing bullets. Then Bangabandhu stood like a hero on the hanging balcony of the second floor. The telephone line at this house was cut around 1:25 p.m. At this time, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was arrested and taken away by the hyena group to destroy Bengal’s dream of independence forever. However, before being arrested, after midnight on March 25, that is, in the early hours of March 26, Bangabandhu announced the independence and armed liberation war through the wireless of the then EPR. After 9 months of war, the final victory was achieved on December 16 in return for the sacrifice of 3 million martyrs, the loss of honor of 2.5 million mothers and sisters, and the extraordinary sacrifice of the nation. The independence day of Bangladesh is celebrated on March 26 based on the declaration of independence by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu.

Program: Today, on the occasion of Genocide Day, the nation will remember with deep respect the brave Bengalis who were victims of the brutal massacre on that black night of March 25th. Various political, social, and cultural organizations in the capital have taken various programs to commemorate ‘Kalratri’.

The Awami League’s program includes a rally at the party’s central office premises at 2 Bangabandhu Avenue today at 2 p.m. The general secretary of the party, Obaidul Quader MP, will be present as the chief guest in this rally organized by the joint initiative of the Dhaka Metropolitan North-South Awami League. A discussion on Genocide Day will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at the Liberation War Museum. Musical theater and cultural programs will be organized across the country on genocide and liberation war. Apart from this, commemoration and discussion of the genocide will be held in all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and madrasas, in the voice of prominent people and brave freedom fighters.
