Pabna Correspondent: Miscreants shot dead a former member of an extremist group in Pabna Sadar Upazila. The deceased’s name is Abdur Razzaq Sheikh (38). The incident took place on Sunday (March 17) around 11 p.m. at the Maniknagar Bazar intersection of Goeshpur Union of the upazila.
The deceased Abdur Razzak is the son of the deceased Azizul Sheikh of Harinarayanpur village in Goeshpur Union. He was a member of the banned extremist organization, the East Bengal Proletarian Party. He surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at Pabna District Stadium in 2019.
Eyewitnesses said that Abdur Razzaq went to Maniknagar market for tea after the Taraweeh prayer after breaking the fast in the evening. Then he sat in a tea shop there. At that time, 5 to 6 masked youths came on two motorcycles, shot him three times, and ran away. He was rescued by the locals and taken to the Pabna General Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
Locals also said that Abdur Razzak was a member of the extremist group. He surrendered to the government in 2019. After that, he was living normally. Maybe he was brutally killed because of a previous dispute.
Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Masood Alam confirmed the matter and said that the deceased Abdur Razzak was a member of the banned extremist organization East Bengal Proletarian Party. Surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman at Pabna District Stadium in 2019. Additional police were deployed there soon after the incident. It is not yet known who killed him. The matter is being seriously investigated.
