The Crime Desk: 15 hours after the derailment of the Vijay Express train at Nangalkot in Comilla, train movement on the down line has returned to normal. On Monday, March 18, at 4:30 a.m., the railway authorities made the train movement convenient. Later, the train started running at 5 a.m..
Chittagong Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Md. Saiful Islam, confirmed this information to Ittefaq Online.
He said that after the derailment of the Vijay Express train, the up line was completely destroyed. Most of the bogies are knocked down the line. The carriages falling on the down line have been safely removed. After that, when traffic was declared normal, all trains from Laksam were brought to Nangalkot station. Later, the Down Cox’s Bazar Express started running at 5 a.m. Down Suwarna, Down Sagarika, and later Up Sonar Bangla and Up Cox’s Bazar will be operated in stages.
The railway official also said that it may take a day or two to complete the rescue work for Vijay Express. For the time being, train movement on the down line has been made suitable for normalization. Both lines of trains will run through the down line. The up line is absolutely crushed. A new line may need to be created. It is not possible to specify when it can be fixed.
On Sunday (March 16) at 11:40 PM, the Vijay Express train left Chittagong for Jamalpur. When Comilla reached Hasanpur in Nangalkot at quarter past 2 in the afternoon, the engine of the train got separated from the compartment in the Tejer Bazar area. The bogies push the engine, which has slowed down from behind. In this, one by one, nine coaches with passengers fell on the side of the railway line. More than 10 passengers were injured in this incident. All of them returned home with first aid.
