Comilla Correspondent: A rescue operation has started in the derailment of eight coaches of the Jamalpur-bound Vijay Express train. The rescue operation, which started around 9 p.m. on Sunday (March 17), may take 7–8 hours to complete. Railway communication with Chittagong is cut off until the recovery of the carriage is completed.
Eight coaches of the Vijay Express train derailed in the Tej Bazar area of Comilla in the afternoon. A few bogies fell by the side of the line. 30 passengers were injured. But no one’s condition is serious.
As a result of the accident, 12 trains on the Dhaka-Chittagong route are stuck at various stations.
Saiful Islam, Divisional Manager of Chittagong Railway Eastern Zone, said, “After nine coaches of Vijay Express derailed, we brought the rescue engine from Chittagong. The rescue operation started after 9 p.m. Our work is ongoing. The recovery of the carriages may be completed tomorrow (Monday) at 5 a.m. However, after the recovery of these coaches, the train movement on this route will be normal in the morning.
On the surface, it can be seen that hundreds of railway workers are working to rescue the train carriages in the darkness in Hasanpur, Nangalkot. They hope to complete the rescue work soon.
Meanwhile, a 5-member investigation committee headed by Anichur Rahman, Eastern Divisional Transport Officer of Railways, has been formed to find out the cause of the accident.
