Bandarban Correspondent: Across the border, clashes between the Myanmar army and the country’s separatist group, the Arakan Army, continue. Last Saturday (March 16) night, the clash took massive form at the Pinchari border of Naikxyongchari upazila in Bandarban. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has strengthened security there to avoid any untoward situation.

Meanwhile, hundreds of members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) Sector-2 are waiting to enter Bangladesh, unable to survive the clash with the Arakan Army. People living on the border said that they were stuck at the Jamchari border of the upazila.

Going to the ground, it can be seen that BGB has strengthened the security at the Naikshyongchari border. Patrolling has increased by increasing the number of BGB members at the Jamchari, Ashartali, Lembuchari, and Pinechari borders of the upazila.

Abdur Rahim, a resident of the Jamchari border area, said that Border Guard Police (BGP) members can take shelter at the zero line of the border between Sunday and Monday. Earlier on March 11, 177 BGP members, including three Myanmar army officers, entered Bangladesh through the Jamchari border. They are currently sheltered at BGB Government Primary School and Naikshyongchari BGB Battalion Headquarters. It is known from several sources that the verification and interrogation of their information are at the final stage.

But when they will be sent back, nothing is known yet.

Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban Shah Mojahid Uddin said that the overall border situation is being monitored by the BGB and the administration.
