Dhaka Bureau: DNCC has sold the building for Tk 60,000 (excluding VAT, IT) through an open auction to demolish and remove the 10-storey building under construction illegally constructed on the land of Ramchandrapur Canal in Mohammadpur Bachil under Ward No. 33 of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

The Regional Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate of Region-5, Motakabbir Ahmed, conducted the open auction of the building on Wednesday (March 17). The chief property officer of DNCC was present. Mohammad Mahe Alam. The highest bidder in the auction was directed to complete the demolition of the under-construction building within 10 days from March 13 and remove the remaining goods. Demolition work has been going on every day since March 14.

Regional Executive Officer Motakabbir Ahmed said, ‘According to the map, about 80 percent of the 10-story buildings under construction are within the boundaries of Ramchandrapur Canal. The illegally constructed building was demolished on February 23 in the presence of the honorable mayor. The owner of the building, after examining the maps and documents, accepted that 80 percent of the building falls on the canal boundary, and the owner of the building asked for seven days to demolish the building. But as the building failed to be removed within the stipulated time, it was later sold through an open auction as per the rules after talking to the owner of the building.

It is to be noted that on February 23, 2024, DNCC started the process of eviction of illegal occupation of Lautla Ramchandrapur Canal and cleaning of dirt. Over 1,500 volunteers from BD Clean, a voluntary organization, assisted DNCC in the day-long cleaning drive. DNCC Mayor Md. from morning to 3 p.m. Atiqul Islam himself was on a clean-up campaign with volunteers. So far, six structures, including an under-construction 10-story building illegally built on the border of the canal, have been demolished in the operation of several days.
