Dhaka Bureau: Today is Thursday (March 14), World Kidney Day. This year, the main theme of the day is ‘Healthy Kidneys for All’. Like other countries in the world, the day will be celebrated through various programs in Bangladesh.
This day is observed on the second Thursday of March every year. On this occasion, President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages.
The President said in his speech, “Though there is an advanced treatment system for kidney disease in the country, it is very expensive and time-consuming.” Therefore, it is very important to create public awareness to prevent kidney disease in addition to remedies.
The Prime Minister said in his speech, “Kidney is an essential part of the human body. Like all over the world, the number of patients suffering from common and complex kidney diseases is increasing alarmingly in Bangladesh. There is no alternative to health awareness to reduce the number of affected patients.
On the occasion of Kidney Day, besides the Ministry of Health, various organizations, including the Bangladesh Kidney Foundation, Campus, Bangladesh Renal Association, Pediatric Nephrology Society of Bangladesh, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), have undertaken various programs.
