Dhaka Bureau: The Ministry of Commerce has decided the retail price of dates. The price of very ordinary or low-quality dates has been fixed at Tk 150 to Tk 165 per kg. On the other hand, the widely used Zaidi dates have been priced at Tk 170 to Tk 180. Traders have been ordered to sell by fixing the retail price based on this fixed price.
The ministry provided this information in the circular issued yesterday on Monday. It is said that the Ministry of Commerce has determined the standard price per kg of dates by analyzing the import price of different quality dates imported into the country, the imposed duties and taxes, and other costs of the importer.
Earlier, on March 10, the director general of the National Consumer Protection Department, AHM Safikuzzaman, said that the Ministry of Commerce will fix the price of Jihadi dates within two-one days to give relief to the breadwinners. Besides, meetings with importers will also keep other dates under surveillance.
