Dhaka Bureau: The identity of journalist Abhishruti Shastri, alias Barshti Khatun, who was killed in the terrible fire at Bailey Road in the capital, has been identified. The DNA test report revealed his father, Sabuj Sheikh, alias Shablul Alam, and mother, Beauty Khatun.
Yesterday, March 9, his identity was identified in the forensic lab of the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The report was sent to the police station from the CID on Sunday, March 10.
CID DIG (Forensic) AKM Nahidul Islam said DNA samples were collected from the parents of Abhishruti alias Barshti Khatun, claimant Sabuj Sheikh, and Beauty Khatun. DNA samples were also taken from the dead body of the deceased woman. It has been checked in the CID lab that Abhishruti or Rain’s father is Sabuj Sheikh and her mother is Beauty Khatun.
DIG Nahidul said that the DNA report was signed and sent to the investigating officer at the police station on Sunday. The body has been asked to be handed over to the claimant’s parents.
Rishi Khatun was one of the 46 people who died in the deadly fire at the Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in the capital on February 29. Drishti was known to his friends and colleagues as Abhishruta Shastri. But because he introduced himself as Abhishruti Shastri, complications arose in handing over his body. After his death, the temple priest claimed him as their devotee. On the other hand, the parents of Sabuj Sheikh and Beauty Khatun claimed that the killed girl is not Abhishruti, but her name is Bristhi Khatun. Rain is their child. In such a situation, the police decided to do a DNA test to identify the identity.
Barshi’s village is in the western part of Bangram village in ward number 7 of Betbaria union of Kushtia’s Khoksa upazila. Abhishruti Shastri’s name on the college certificate, birth registration, and national identity card is Brishi Khatun. But his friends and colleagues knew his name was Abhishruti. After death, there is a problem with this name. His body is in the Dhaka Medical College Mortuary.
Meanwhile, the DNA test of Nazmul Islam, a student at BRAC University in Dhaka Medical College Morgue, has also identified him.
