He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a gathering on the occasion of the 3rd anniversary of the 6th elected council of Chittagong City Corporation on Saturday (March 8).
Md. Tajul Islam said at this time that to strengthen the local government does not only mean the allocation but also means the independent local government institutions by creating opportunities to increase the income of the people in certain areas.
He said that every city corporation, municipality, and upazila parish should think about creating employment opportunities for people in their respective areas. He also mentioned that people will feel motivated to pay revenue if people’s income increases and civic services are easily available.
Mentioning that adequate allocation has been given for Chittagong City Corporation, the Minister said that all levels of the city corporation should work sincerely so that the people get the benefit of that allocation properly. He also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is determined to make Chittagong a city free from traffic jams and waterlogging.
The local government minister emphasized increasing public awareness to prevent Aedes mosquito and dengue disease during the upcoming monsoon and said that regular cleaning operations should be conducted in places where clean water can freeze, starting from homes, schools, colleges, hospitals, and police stations, so that Aedes mosquitoes breed. can’t He urged the public representatives present in their respective areas to increase public awareness about Aedes mosquito control.
The Minister of Local Government assured all possible cooperation from the ministry in any initiative taken for road widening to solve traffic congestion in Chittagong City.
Emphasizing strengthening Chittagong city’s waste management through incineration, the minister said there is no other option to protect the Karnaphuli River and the Bay of Bengal from pollution.
He said Chittagong City Corporation will work with ID numbers to renovate the roads so that there is no repetition in getting allotment on the same road.
