Uttara (Dhaka) representative: The union leaders cannot give a precise account of the money raised in the name of worker welfare in an export-oriented garment factory in Dakshinkhan of the capital. It is known that the labor union of Intraco Design Ltd. located in Kasaibari Railgate area of Dakshinkhan received approval from the Ministry of Labor on November 20, 2019. From then on, the worker of the said factory has to pay a contribution of 20 taka per month in the name of Sramik Kalyan Fund.
According to several workers of the factory, there are about 450 workers in the factory. As such, there should be at least 3 lakh 24 thousand taka in the fund of the union. When the workers asked for an account, the president of the union made excuses. Can’t give a logically specific calculation. If anyone wants to account, he is suppressed with threats.
As labor leaders, there is money in the fund like one and a half lakh rupees. When asked where the rest of the money went, he said that the money was spent running here and there in the work of the union. Besides, 20% of the monthly subscription has to be paid to the central leaders. Such unreasonable calculations are given to the workers.
Fusing section worker Mohammad Furkan said that money collected in the name of worker welfare is not used for worker welfare. If someone needs money, they have to take money from the president with an interest of 200 taka per thousand. Union elections are supposed to be held after 2 years but this committee does not hold elections even after 3 years. Current committee leaders do not resign. Speaking against them is suppressed with threats and intimidation. The future of factories and workers is on the verge of destruction because of their boring decisions.
On the other hand, last few days, while collecting the money of the union subscription, a huge incident happened. Finishing Quality Riaz said that when the leaders came to collect the subscription for the current month, they said that the subscription for the month of July should also be paid. Earlier they did not collect July subscription. Therefore, two months’ 40 rupees should be paid together in the current month. On the other hand, everyone in the quality section protested. They claim that the subscription for the month of July has already been taken. They also show evidence. But union president Dulal refuses to accept any arguments. His absurd demand that the subscription should not be collected, should be paid. He started threatening qualities. Later, out of fear, the workers were forced to accept.
