Pirojpur Correspondent: At least 15 people were injured in clashes, attacks and shootings between the two sides at the Awami League conference in Nazirpur, Pirojpur. The incident took place in the local government women’s college grounds on Saturday (November 19) afternoon.
The injured are – the joint general secretary of Matibhanga Union Jubo League of the upazila. Abdur Rashid Sheikh (42), Upazila Chhatra League Convener Tariqul Islam Tapas (35), Nazirpur Girls Secondary School Principal Prashant Kumar Halder (55), Jewel Sheikh (18), Akhtaruzzaman Shikder (55), Subodh Mistry (42), Enamul Sheikh Tuku (26), Zakaria Bepari (30), Md. Shaon (30), Mejba Howladar (30), Sohag Mridha (40), Nixon (23) and Zakir Hossain (28).
Dr. Upazila Health Complex emergency department doctor. Kaushik Saha said, “Nine injured people have been treated and admitted to the hospital.”
Convenor of Upazila Chhatra League Tarikul Islam Chowdhury Tapos said, “In the evening, the central leaders were sitting in a room on the second floor of Bangmata College to form a committee. At that time we were standing under that building and shouting slogans. At one stage, a young man who came from Pirojpur along with the district Awami League president fired shots. Jubo League leader Rashid was injured in that shooting.
Eyewitnesses said that two sides clashed over this incident. Meanwhile, at least 10 microbuses were vandalized in Nazirpur Girls Secondary School grounds.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nazirpur Police Station. Humayun Kabir said, “I did not see anyone shoot.” But some ran screaming that they had been shot. Later, some people were injured in the attack and clash.
