Dhaka Bureau: The winning members of the 50 reserved seats of the 12th National Assembly will take oaths on Wednesday. At 11 a.m. today in the swearing-in chamber of the National Parliament, Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury will read their oath. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Deputy Speaker, Chief Whip, other whips, and members of the Council of Ministers will be present. Parliament Secretariat sources informed us of this information.
Meanwhile, the secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat left yesterday. In a gazette signed by Jahangir, the Election Commission (EC) published the names of the winners of the 50 reserved seats for women. Earlier, the returning officer and EC Joint Secretary, Moniruzzaman Talukder, released the final list of 50 unopposed candidates. In the reserved women’s seats, the Awami League, in alliance with independents, got 48 seats, and the Jatiya Party got two seats.
EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that after the publication of the gazette of the names of the winning candidates, it had been sent to the secretariat of the National Assembly. After that, the Parliament Secretariat will organize the swearing-in of these members. Parliament Secretariat sources said yesterday afternoon that MPs in reserved seats will take oaths today on Wednesday. After the oath, they will sign the oath book. They will join the parliament later today.
Earlier last Sunday, all the candidates were declared unopposed, as no candidate withdrew their nomination for the reserved women’s seat. That day was the last day for the withdrawal of nominations for female candidates.
