Dhaka Bureau: The final list of winners of 50 reserved seats for women in the 12th National Parliament has been published. The Election Commission (EC) published the gazette with the winners of the women’s seats on Tuesday (February 27).

After publishing the gazette in the name of the winning candidates, it will be sent to the secretariat of the National Assembly. The Parliament Secretariat will then organize the swearing-in of these members. Members of parliament from reserved female seats will join parliament after taking the oath.

Earlier last Sunday (February 25), all candidates were declared unopposed, as no candidate withdrew their nomination for the reserved women’s seat.

According to the electoral rules, women’s seats are allocated in proportion to the number of seats won by parties in direct elections. The ruling Awami League has nominated candidates for 48 reserved women’s seats with the support of alliance partners and independent candidates. Opposition party Jatiya Party has nominated 2 seats.
