Dhaka Bureau: Today is February 11th. A day of mourning and glory at the same time in Bengali history. In the first hour, after the President and the Prime Minister, high-ranking officials of the government paid their respects at the Central Shaheed Minar. People from different classes and professions paid their respects at night, but on Wednesday (February 21), thousands of people flocked to the central Shaheed Minar at dawn.
With black flags and banners and flowers in hand, everyone marched slowly towards Shaheed Minar in front of Jagannath Hall. At 6:20 in the morning, the people who came for Pravatferi started offering flowers at Shaheed Minar. Many have come to pay respect to the martyrs by wearing black Punjabi saris to maintain the mood of mourning.
Many other patriotic songs, like ‘Amar bhai’s blood-dyed Ekushe Februari/Am ki bhulile pari…’ are playing softly from Shaheed Minar.
At this time, everyone is seen standing in a long line at the central Shaheed Minar.
Meanwhile, metal detectors have been installed on the road in front of the gate of Jagannath Hall facing Central Shaheed Minar from Palashi Junction. Law and order forces are entering the area of Shaheed Minar by searching everyone who comes to pay respect. Additional police are deployed in Dhaka University and surrounding areas.
