Entertainment Desk: Pala ‘Mahua’ based on Mymensingh Geetika was staged by the students of Theater and Performance Studies department of Dhaka University (DU) Natmandal.
The staging of the play began on Friday (October 28) at seven o’clock in the evening. The play will be staged at the same time every day till November 4 in collaboration with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. 18 students of the fourth semester of the second year of graduation of the department are acting in it.
The Mahua Pala production is a notable adaptation of the Mymensingh Gitika edited by Dineshchandra Sen. The collectors of the turn were Chandrakumar Dey, Purnachandra Bhattacharya and Kshitishchandra Mooli. Dwij Kanai is credited as the author. In terms of Ross, it is a romantic tragedy genre scenario. In this poem, the poet has a non-communal psychology in the creation of thought, history, character, song.
The play Mahua mainly presents the love story of two characters Mahua Sundari and Nader Chand in a beautiful yet tragic way. Humra Veda could not accept the love relationship between Mahua and Nader Chand. At last, the Moon of Mahua-nader started living in the forest. Mahua was not saved there either. Finally Mahua chose the path of self-immolation. Nader Chand was also killed later. The Mahua narrative ends with a tragic ending.
Professor Rahmat Ali of DU Theater and Performance Studies, director of the play, said that the song is the main part of this narrative play. One of the main objectives of this production is not just a passion for music but to connect civil life with this inexhaustible performance style, which has been studied for thousands of years, and is looking for traditional roots, and to introduce this style to students at the academic level, simultaneously to prepare a potentially useful field of practice and practice.
Azrina Sharmin, Ananya Dey, Varnali Ghosh Varna, Fauzia Afrin Vilu, Zaheed Al Fuad, Maria Sultana, Md. are acting in the play. Farhad Hossain Fahim, Md. Habibur Rahman Kanchan, Md. Mezbahul Islam Jim, Munira Mahzabeen, Musabbir Hussain Rifat, Niharika Neera, Shanta Akhtar, Sheikh Rahatul Islam, Sheikh Mumtarin Athai, Tahsin Noor Mitrita, Tumpa Rani Das, Umme Hani.
