Cox’s Bazar Representative: Health Minister Dr. Samant Lal Sen said, “Close illegal hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers; otherwise, appropriate action will be taken.”
He said this while visiting public and private health centers in Cox’s Bazar on Friday (February 16).
On Friday afternoon, in an unscheduled operation, the private health center Union Hospital Limited of Cox’s Bazar was visited by Health Minister Dr. Samant Lal Sen. During the visit, Director General of Health Directorate ABM Khurshid Alam, Director of Health Directorate (Hospitals) Mainul Hossain, and Civil Surgeon of Chittagong accompanied the Health Minister.
The health minister visited Union Hospital Limited, a private health center adjacent to Sadar Hospital in Cox’s Bazar, where he found several irregularities. Although the hospital is not approved for ICU and CT scan treatment, treatment is being given through the ICU and CT scan. After not seeing the presence of doctors and nurses in the hospital, the health minister went to the hospital manager’s room and found the manager on duty smoking there.
The health minister expressed surprise to see numerous patients admitted there, despite the lack of other facilities in the hospital. He said, “In a private B-category hospital, there is no doctor, there is no nurse, and the manager himself smokes, but it is necessary to find out how the patients are admitted in that hospital.” Along with this, patients are being illegally admitted to the ICU here, but the ICU is not approved, and there is no skilled manpower to run the ICU.
He also said, ‘Although these irregularities have been done all over the country for so long, no one can do them from now on. I first explained to the owners of these illegal health centers that they should close their respective illegal health centers. Some have heard, some have not.
I again request that they close down unauthorized, illegal hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers. For those who are not stopping, I will now take appropriate legal action against them.
The Health Minister took measures to admit a seriously ill patient who was being treated in the illegal ICU unit of the said private health center, Union Hospital Limited, to the neighboring Government Sadar Hospital as soon as possible. He immediately directed the present director (hospital) to take legal action against Union Hospital Limited.
Later, the health minister went to the 2.5-bed government headquarters hospital in Cox’s Bazar for another shock operation.
Go there and observe the attendance of doctors and nurses according to the attendance book of the hospital supervisor. The minister spoke to hospitalized patients and inquired about treatment. The Minister of Health gave instructions to the hospital supervisors and other health workers present about what to do to increase the service system in the government hospitals.
The health minister has been staying in Cox’s Bazar since yesterday (Thursday) as part of the three-day development program of Cox’s Bazar district health care management.
