Signing of MOU to increase cooperation between Bangladesh and GCC

Dhaka Bureau: Both sides have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Bangladesh and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for regular consultations for cooperation in various fields.

This information was informed in a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday (November 19).

It has been reported that on Friday (November 18) in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, the Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen and Secretary General of GCC. Nayem Falah m. Al-Hajraf signed this memorandum of understanding. Under the MoU, the two sides will regularly discuss cooperation in political, economic, cultural, people-to-people communication, climate change, agriculture, food security and environmental protection.

In the meeting, the secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mashfi Binte Shams, the Ambassador of Bangladesh appointed to Bahrain. Nazrul Islam and related officials of Bangladesh and GCC were present.

The GCC Secretary General said that this MoU will serve as a legal framework for cooperation between Bangladesh and the GCC through Joint Action Plans, Joint Working Groups and Technical Teams, Joint Business Councils and GCC Forums.

The foreign minister emphasized in the meeting that there are many opportunities for Bangladesh and GCC to work together for skill development, food security, energy security, climate change, crisis management, peace management, forestry and information technology cooperation, PTAs or FTAs. The Foreign Minister informed the Secretary General about the unprecedented socio-economic progress of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

When the Foreign Minister invited the GCC Secretary General to visit Bangladesh, he thanked the Foreign Minister and expressed interest in visiting Bangladesh at a convenient time.
