Biswas Foundation chairman accused of embezzlement of Rs

Kushtia Correspondent: 175 cases have been filed against Chairman Anisur Rahman Biswas for embezzling hundreds of crores of taka from 64 branches of 12 districts, including Biswas Savings and Loans Cooperative Society Limited under the Biswas Foundation in Kumarkhali, Kushtia. Locals said that when they went to his house in Sadarpur, Nandalalpur Union, on Wednesday, it was found that the house was locked and the family was absconding.

Locals said that Anisur Rahman Biswas, the son of the late Ibrahim Biswas, who once worked at Kumarkhali Upazila Health Complex, started an NGO called Biswas Samukhi Debdan Sambay Samity Limited in 2006. After that, the members of the association started collecting by promising various financial benefits. Members of NGOs keep investing lakhs of rupees in the Biswas Foundation in the hope of a monthly dividend of 1500 to 2000 rupees. In this way, 64 NGO branches with different names were created in 12 districts of Bangladesh. 153 employees are appointed in 64 branches. And multiple blank checks and stamps are taken from the employees stating the security of the organization. Crores of rupees were invested in the Biswas Foundation by luring their relatives through these workers.

Apart from the two private cars belonging to the founder chairman, Anisur Rahman Biswas, and his brother, Abu Saeed Biswas, the managing director of the company, three more private cars were purchased for other high-ranking officials. Six TV-fridge and daily-use product showrooms were opened in several upazilas, including Kumarkhali. Two covered vans are purchased for transporting goods to these showrooms. Anisur Rahman started living a luxurious life by purchasing a 7-story building next to the house of Kushtia-3 Constituency Member of Parliament Mahabubul Alam Hanif, buying 4 percent of land, buying 19 percent of valuable land along Kumarkhali Kazipara Main Road, and buying four flats in different areas of Dhaka. his brother In 2022, the Malanch Foundation of Bangladesh bought the MRA certificate for Tk 45 lakh with the purpose of conducting loan activities across the country.

At the beginning of 2023, there was the collapse of the Biswas Foundation. When the members guessed the matter and asked for the return of their invested money, various quarrels started. The NGO authorities locked the main office of the Biswas Foundation in Alauddin Nagar due to the pressure of the members if they did not return the money despite being given it several times. In November 2023, hundreds of members surrounded the house of Anisur Rahman in Sadarpur and held a protest program demanding the return of money and the punishment of the accused.

Sarwar Alam, the victim, said that he has deposited Rs. 60 lakh in the Biswas Foundation. He and his relatives were lured to invest about two crore rupees in all. Another victim, Abdullah Al Mamun, said that he had invested Tk 19 lakh. There was no way he could recover his money. Customers have already filed 175 cases in court, as everyone, including Anis, is covered up.

Kumarkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahbubul Haque said that an NGO named Biswas Foundation has received information that the customers’ money has been hidden. Customers have also filed a case in this regard. The court will take legal action against the culprits.
