Tangail Correspondent: She joined Paschim Kalidas Panaulla Para Government Primary School of Sakhipur Upazila of Tangail as an assistant teacher on January 24, 2023. He has been accused of truancy. In the last year, he took classes for only 54 days.
The school teacher’s name is Jebun Nahar Shila. Sheela’s current identity is that of a member of the central committee of the Chhatra League and vice president of the Eden Women’s College Chhatra League.
Locals complain that this teacher is not coming to the class as per the rules and that school education is being disrupted.
They say that this teacher has been absent from school due to political influence since joining the school. Even though the studentship is over, Ayesha Siddiqa of Eden College is staying in room 301 of the hall. He is often seen in the college and central political programs of BCL. Despite working in government service, he is busy in the field of politics without ignoring all the rules. Meetings and marches are not excluded. On January 3, the Bangladesh Awami League Tangail district branch held a virtual meeting on the occasion of the campaign for the 12th Parliament election and claimed to be a student of Eden College and the first voter for the Prime Minister. However, he completed his master’s degree from Eden College in 2014 and was registered as a national voter in 2013. Shila’s date of birth on the voter ID card is January 1, 1992.
Anik, a fifth grade student at Panaulla Para Government Primary School, said, Sheela madam took our class for a few days. Don’t come to school anymore.
Mirza Sultan Mahmud, assistant teacher of the school, said we have divided the class of the absent teacher among five teachers. So that students are not harmed.
On condition of anonymity, another teacher said that because of Sheela madam’s absence, there is pressure on us; we are taking classes with great difficulty; we are taking classes with 6 teachers and 5 people.
Accused teacher Jebun Nahar Shila said, I am following the rules; I am on medical leave.
Sheila also said that there is no use in finding such information; I do central politics, so I represented Tangail in the virtual public meeting.
Dhiren Chandra Sarkar, the headmaster of the school, confirmed the fact that Jebun Nahar Shila has taken classes for only 54 days in a year since she joined.
He said that since September 10, teacher Sheila has not come to school. He also did not keep in contact with the school. When asked if there is any political pressure, he said, I have signed the application for medical leave for two consecutive months on the instructions of the higher authorities.
He did not agree to make any further comments on this matter.
When asked about her student status, Eden Mahila College Chhatra League president Tamanna Jasmine Riva said that Sheila’s student status may have been correct during the formation of the committee. The Central Chhatra League will consider the matter in forming the next committee. However, he avoided the issue of legality, even though he confirmed that Shila was staying in the residence hall.
When asked whether there is a provision in the constitution for an employee to continue in his position, General Secretary of BCL Central Parliament Sheikh Wali Asif Inan said, “We know that Sheela has resigned from that job. Regarding whether it is legal to remain a member of the BCL even after completing her studentship, Inan said, “I am aware that the leader completed her master’s degree in Eden and was later pursuing her master’s degree in a course at Dhaka University. If not, I will definitely look into it.
District Primary Education Officer Subrata Kumar Banik said Sheela is on medical leave. However, the teacher’s salary has been stopped.
In this regard, Sakhipur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO), Mohammad Hossain Patwari, said that the upazila education officer has already been instructed to take legal action against the teacher who was absent for various reasons.
