Rangamati Correspondent: A fire has taken place at the Meghchoya resort of Kanglak Hills in the Sajek Valley of Baghaichhari Upazila in Rangamati.
The fire broke out at midnight on Thursday (February 1). It soon spread to nearby resorts, shops, and residences.
Eyewitnesses said that the fire is believed to have started when locals were burning wood near the Meghchoya resort. Later, with the help of the army and local people, the fire was brought under control after two hours of effort. Two resorts, a house, and a shop were completely gutted in the fire.
Chaithuang Aung Chowdhury Joy, vice president of the Sajek Cottage Owners’ Association, said that a fire broke out from Meghchoya Resort, and at the nearby Faringi Resort, a local Bhuban Tripura’s house and a shop were burned. Tourists staying at the resort have been evacuated safely.
However, the extent of fire damage is not known yet.
