Panic on the border due to the sound of mortar shells in Myanmar

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: The Arkan Army is fighting fiercely with the army in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, bordering Bangladesh. As a result, the residents of Ghumdhum in the Naikxyongchari upazila of Bandarban and the Teknaf border of Cox’s Bazar are in fear. Residents on the other side of the border are constantly shaken by the loud sound of mortar shell explosions inside the country.

On Tuesday (January 30), around 1:00 p.m., the locals heard the loud sound of a mortar shell explosion inside Myanmar at pillar number 34 of the Bangladesh-Myanmar border. After a while, the Tumbru border shook with three loud noises. Meanwhile, 10 to 15 gunshots were heard in the Tumbru area of Bangladesh.

On Tuesday morning, the people of Anjuman Para and the Hoikang border of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, heard the loud sound of two mortar shells.

Chairman of Ghumdhum Union Parishad. Jahangir Aziz said that the sound of gunfire was heard inside Myanmar this afternoon. The loud sound of mortar shells created panic in the border area. In such a situation, the people of the border area have been asked to move with caution.

Maulana Noor Ahmad Anwari, chairman of the Hoikang Union Parishad of Teknaf Upazila, said that the sounds of bullets and mortar shells have been heard from Myanmar for several days. Last Saturday, a bullet hit a resident’s house on the border of my union. Since then, the residents of the border area have been in fear.
