Seizure of biscuits made with harmful chemicals

Nagar Reporter: The magistrate seized 80 cartons of biscuits worth around fifty thousand rupees after raiding a biscuit manufacturing factory in Karnaphuli.

The operation was conducted under the leadership of Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Piyush Kumar Chowdhury and with the support of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) in the Moizzartek area of Upazila on Tuesday (January 30) at noon.

During the raid, evidence was found that the company called Elegant Food in Charpatharghata Union’s Moizjartek area was manufacturing and marketing biscuits mixed with harmful chemicals without the approval of BSTI.

In this incident, the manager of the institution. 80 cartoon biscuits were seized in the presence of Asif (32). Each carton contains 10 packets of biscuits. All the activities of the institution were ordered to be stopped until all the documents were in order.

Later, the seized biscuit products were destroyed in the Karnaphuli River on the south bank of Newbridge in the presence of all.

In the same operation, the rod cement shop named Mohammadia Enterprise in the Moizjartek area was fined 20 thousand taka, and Shah Amanat Enterprise was fined 10 thousand taka under the Weight Measurement Act.

Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) officer Farhana Jahan Parul, engineer Zillur Rahman, and the CMP Karnaphuli police team were present in the operation.

Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Piyush Kumar Chowdhury said unlicensed harmful chemicals were being manufactured and marketed. Such operations will continue.
