Mahbubur Rahman: Shaplapur Union of Cox’s Bazar District, Maheshkhali Upazila. Shaplapur Bazar is the big market for Shaplapur Union. There is a big pond near the Shaplapur market. The union land office is on the western side of that pond. On the east side is the field, and Shaplapur High School is after the field. On the south side of the pond is the official BP Bhukta No. 1 Khas Khatian site. Of which, BP No. 209/68-69 Khatian No-668. Some of these places are ceded property, and some are enemy property. It is said that those who had taken one-year leases from the government for cultivation have now become the permanent owners of these properties.
During the on-site investigation, it was known that government property worth billions of rupees was being wasted only because of the negligence of the government and some dishonest government employees and officials.
Without cultivating this land, without renewing the lease from the government, and by erecting buildings as shops and offices, the Kuchtrui Mahal is running and collecting rent. But within five hundred yards of it is the Government Union Land Office.
Talking to the common people of the area, it is known that the relatives and party people of the former and current chairman are occupying government land and building buildings. As if this harryloot does not stop.
When Abdul Khalek Chowdhury, the current chairman of Shaplapur Union Parishad, was contacted on the mobile phone, he said that there is no one to protect the government property. Those who protect public property are helping to loot public property. If I am the representative of the area to say something, then the shops of the relatives of the former chairman need to be evacuated first.
He also said that there are now two- to three-story buildings on all these lands. At present, there are about 30 shops and houses. Various government offices have taken rent from the illegally erected buildings on government land. Grameen Bank office is also located in the government-dedicated building. Nurul Abshar, a teacher at Shaplapur High School, rented the building on government land to Grameen Bank. He is a teacher. How can a sane person do this?
When contacted on mobile phone, Tehsildar Chandan of Shaplapur Government Union Land Office said, “I have verbally prohibited many times not to construct the building.” But none of them listen to me. When asked whether he informed the AC Land and Upazila Nirbahi Officer in writing, he said, No, it was not informed in writing. But I will be informed in writing. But by then, the land grabbers will build the building and rent it like others.
On the condition of anonymity, a businessman in Shaplapur market said that Tehsildar Chandan Babu is also involved in the occupation of this government land. If you investigate well, he or his relatives can also find his shop.
If Maheshkhali contacted the land officer on mobile, he said he would talk later. The matter was sent on WhatsApp, but no reply was given. After that, he did not receive the mobile phone.
When Maheshkhali contacted the Upazila Nirbahi Officer on his mobile phone, he said, “I have also heard about the construction of buildings by occupying government land in Shaplapur.” When asked whether any action had been taken, he said no; no action had been taken. But soon I will raid there and take legal action.
When the former Chairman of Maheshkhali Upazila Parishad, Muhammad Sharif Badsha, was contacted on mobile, he said that since development is taking place in Maheshkhali, government land is being looted everywhere in Maheshkhali. A seaside parabon cutting project is being done. I think the concerned administration should be more active in this matter.
