Sukanth Bikas Dhar, Satkania: A robbery took place in the office of a bricklayer in Satkania, Chittagong. However, this incident is not just a case of robbery, Moinuddin, the owner of the mill, said. Yesterday (Wednesday), around five in the morning, the incident took place at the brickyard called NBM next to Kenochia Adarsh High School in Kenochia Union of Upazila. In this incident, the bandits took cash, damaged CCTV cameras, and camera parts.
Bricklayer manager Abdur Rahman and accounting assistant Touhidul Islam said that around five in the morning on Wednesday, a group of 10-15 masked armed robbers with a bus of Hanif Paribahan and a private car first came to the main gate of the brickyard and asked the doorman Mohammad Shahjahan to open the gate. When the gatekeeper refused, the gatekeeper opened the gate when the police identified him and told him to search the brickyard and the office. Later, the dacoit gang took hostage some people working in the office of the brick kiln at gunpoint, took away their mobile phones, and tied their hands and feet into a room and locked them. Later, a group of robbers broke into the office and looted 56,000 taka in cash and some money from the porter’s pocket. While they were leaving, the robbers threatened the owner of the brick kiln with dire consequences if he did anything wrong.
It is known that in the late night of February 28, 2021, the father of Moinuddin, the owner of the brickyard, and the former chairman of Keochia Union (UP) Parishad of the same upazila, Abdul Haque Miah, was murdered in his bedroom. In this incident, Nezamuddin, the elder brother of the owner of the brick kiln, filed a case at the Satkania police station, making the caretaker of the house, Zamir Uddin, the sole defendant. The accused gave a confessional statement under Section 164 in court. Later, when the four sons and three daughters of the deceased objected to the charge sheet in court, the court assigned the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to re-investigate the case. Later, PBI submitted the charge sheet to the court, keeping Zamir Uddin as the only accused as before. The case is now being heard.
Moinuddin, the owner of the brickyard, said that not much money is kept in the office of the brickyard. This is not a mere case of robbery. The case of my father’s murder is now being heard in court. I am more than eager for a proper investigation into the matter. A negative incident happened to me a couple of months ago. I consider this incident part of it. I am requesting that the administration properly investigate this incident. I will file a case at the police station. Police visited the spot.
Satkania Police Inspector (Investigation) Ataul Haque Chowdhury said this incident is theft, not robbery. I think it is part of someone’s conflict with the owner of the brickyard. However, the matter is being investigated to see what the real incident is. The case is under process in this incident.
