Thakurgaon Correspondent: The temperature in Thakurgaon dropped to 9 degrees due to thick fog and cold air. According to Thakurgaon Agricultural Extension, the lowest temperature recorded in the district was 9 degrees Celsius at 7 a.m. on Sunday (January 14).
Hardworking and low-income people are in trouble due to thick fog and cold wind. People in rural areas are suffering more. In the meantime, the seedbed of Erie-Boro has been damaged. Low-income people are suffering due to the low number of passengers due to the cold weather in Konkan.
The sun is not seen from morning until noon. On Saturday, too, the sun was visible for 10 minutes in the late afternoon. Therefore, the severity of winter is a little higher in this area.
Due to the winter, working people with low incomes are facing problems. Not being able to work properly is disrupting their income. People are flocking to the old coarse cloth (hawker’s market) shops to avoid winter. This winter and dense fog have also become a cause for concern for farmers. Outbreaks of winter-borne diseases have been observed eating potatoes and tomatoes in the field. Boro saplings are also not growing properly.
Naren Das, a farmer of Ruhia Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, said that some of the potatoes grown on my land have leaf spots. This is due to the cold and dense fog. I have to spray pesticides frequently. The cost of production is increasing.
Kobbat Majhi of Chilarang said that the seedlings are not growing even though the seeds are sown in the Boro seedbed. They are turning red even after a little growth.
